Branded Development Lead (GQ & WIRED)


We are looking for a creative development lead to drive the continued growth of Condé Nast Entertainment’s leading digital video and audio business, a primary function in our evolution into a 21st century world class entertainment company. As Branded Development Lead, GQ & WIRED Japan (Local Language) you will work to build Condé Nast’s iconic brands. You will propose creative video concepts for our clients with the ideas and visual inspirations from your representing brand, and to work closely with our creative producers to oversee the production processes. This role is based in Tokyo and reports to the Head of Programming and Development, Japan Local Language.

The purpose of this role is to grow the branded entertainment business in the forms of:

• Branded video optimized for global digital platforms (e.g. O&O, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, TikTok), with focus on premium quality and client‘s story

• Streaming events (live and recorded) highlighting client‘s important moments and messages

• Branded video as a part of global production, produced with Condé Nast’s global creative and production network

• Video produced as a white label production, optimized for various digital platforms (e.g. Client‘s website, social platforms, in-store digital screens, OOH)

Primary Responsibilities

• Align with brand editorial priorities and client‘s requirements to create video concepts

• Collaborate with the sales team and custom solutions team to build video campaigns across designated platforms

• Be relentless with premium storytelling development and execution, bringing fresh perspective to the content

• Deliver world-beating branded entertainment ideation and iteration, leveraging existing and new digital video frontiers with a view to building on Condé Nast’s established reputation as the leading storyteller and global media entertainment business; and fulfill both brand and commercial goals

• Generate ideas for various clients, new and existing, with creative solutions needs for the designated video platforms

• Write up ideas for proposals in a clear and concise manner for client‘s approval

• Lead and participate in brainstorming sessions

• Establish visual best practices and look and feel of the branded video with client’s as well as our brand stakeholders

• Gain knowledge and insights from past creatives by working with data from the content team and creative group

• Create storyboards, moodboard, and motion graphic treatments, when appropriate, for a new branded production

• Collaborate with brand editorial on the development of talent, both internal and external

• Collaborate continuously with Content Performance & Analytics, brand editorial, and Audience Development to understand the audiences and provide insights to our sales team and clients

• Partner with Global Physical Production to establish workflows from inception to execution that deliver quality and exceptional storytelling, consistent communication, and swift decision making

• If applicable, have the option to produce / direct pilots and ad hoc projects

• Exhibit a culture of professionalism and results-oriented purpose

• Participate in ad hoc projects / activities as required by the business

Desired Skills and Qualifications

• 3+ years experience in the digital media space

• Excellent track record of creating branded videos across including and not limited to YouTube, O&O, Facebook, Instagram and other key social video platforms

• Clear awareness of Condé Nast’s brands and content

• Deep knowledge of internet culture and digital video landscape (e.g. YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Snap,, the unique elements of each video platform and what makes particular videos successful on those platforms

• Rampant, insatiable curiosity

• Rapid ideation skills

• Established creative sensibility; ability to drive deep, organic engagement across multiple platforms

• Proven ability to proactively identify and implement effective solutions to problems and

• Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines

• Strong interpersonal communication skills (written and oral) with an emotionally intelligent communication style

• Entrepreneurial, strategic and holistic mindset, eagerness to learn and build, and a reputation as an innovative, adaptable and proactive “doer” with desire to differentiate Condé Nast from the competition

• Experience within a start-up or new line of business within a large, highly leveraged company

• Familiarity with the brands and businesses of Condé Nast

• Native level Japanese (speaking and writing, oral), business level English
